What’s Next For Edge Following WWE Backlash?
By Grant Mannis
Edge and Randy Orton settled their differences at WWE Backlash, but what’s next?
In an effort to truly live up to the “greatest match ever” moniker, Edge and Randy Orton put on an absolute classic at WWE Backlash. Unfortunately, at some point during the match, Edge suffered a gruesome triceps tear.
The injury will keep him out of action for some time, which means that the feud between he and Orton is finished for the time being. Because of this, the direction of Edge’s career is in a state of flux, and it’ll be up to WWE to decide where he goes from here.
Due to the lengthy recovery time associated with a triceps tear, the best course of action for Edge is that he sit on the sidelines for the rest of 2020. The storyline with Orton feels complete, and there’s no need to rush him back onto television and risk further injury.

He should be allowed plenty of time to recover, and then the Ultimate Opportunist can be saved for a special occasion. For example, a great time for him to reappear is on the very first RAW of 2021.
Instead of continuing his issue with Randy Orton, Edge would announce that he intends on competing in the Royal Rumble match. From there, let someone like Seth Rollins interrupt the announcement and proclaim that it’s time for him to simply walk away. In one segment such as this, WWE could plant the seeds for a future match, and a feud that would keep fans engaged.
If WWE selects Seth Rollins as Edge’s next opponent, then there is already an established storyline that the company can make use of. Back in 2014, Seth Rollins was in the middle of a rivalry with John Cena.
During that rivalry, Edge made a special appearance on RAW, and so Rollins chose to use him as bait to antagonize Cena. Threatening to snap the neck of the former world champion, Rollins put the Rated-R Superstar in a precarious position, something that Edge most certainly hasn’t forgotten.
Using this as fuel to eliminate Rollins from the Rumble Match, the potential feud could easily last until WrestleMania 37. Edge versus Seth Rollins is an underrated dream match, one that fans have been clamoring about for years. It’d be the right time for the contest as well, because at this point in their careers, Edge serves as a reflection of what the Architect could be.
Both are vicious and opportunistic competitors that in the past have stopped at nothing to win. Each has done things that others consider over the line, yet performing those acts allowed them to climb the top of the WWE ladder. Putting them together is an ultimate pairing – and one that could elevate both men on the road to WrestleMania.
