WWE Raw: 3 reasons why Asuka needs to beat Charlotte Flair
Reading the room on Charlotte
A 12-time women’s champion, Charlotte Flair is one of the most decorated competitors in WWE history. She’s going to break the record for the most world championship wins in WWE history; there is no doubt about it.
But fans are tired of hearing about how great Charlotte is. Her NXT Title run soured more fans on her, and while some of these criticisms can really devolve into personal attacks and are often categorically unfair, there is truth to the statement that WWE often puts too much of a focus on one wrestler. In the WWE Women’s Division, that wrestler is Charlotte Flair, even though it should be Sasha Banks.
I digress. The point is that after beating Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women’s Title at WrestleMania 36 and failing to truly elevate the title, it’s best for WWE to take a break with Flair. The creative team messed up in their goal to help Charlotte elevate NXT, but at least the ship will be righted with Io Shirai as the brand’s much-needed champion.
WWE need to read the room here and avoid putting the title on Charlotte or having her register a big win. Keep her as an important part of WWE Raw, recognize she has a wonderful fan base, and have her kill it on Monday nights. But put a little pause on the whole championship thing. It’s getting a little out of hand and not really helping her.
