Bray Wyatt is about to have another cinematic match at WWE Extreme Rules 2020.

WWE, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be interested in shutting down amidst over 30 people reportedly testing positive for COVID-19 within the company. It appears WWE Extreme Rules 2020 will go ahead as planned on July 19 with the ridiculous, insulting “The Horror Show” tagline. And the biggest match on the card will be Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt.

Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue reports that the Wyatt Swamp Fight match between Wyatt and Strowman, which will be for Strowman’s Universal Championship, will feature more action than Wyatt’s first cinematic match with John Cena at WrestleMania 36.

Cinematic matches have been used in wrestling long before WWE made use of them at WrestleMania, but they will be leaned on more heavily and have more of a place with no live audience. (And please, WWE, do not bring back the fans!)

Wyatt vs. Cena and The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles were both cinematic matches occurring during WrestleMania Weekend, but they were completely different.

Taker vs. Styles took place in the great outdoors and was a fight, whereas Cena vs. Wyatt took place in multiple indoor settings with brief in-ring “action” and was mostly a haunting metaphorical spoof of Cena’s career. (Actually, don’t take my explanation of it, because I have no idea how to analyze this properly.)

In any case, the Wyatt Swamp Fight could be a great mix of both of them. Colohue’s report that the Wyatt Swamp Fight will be a “version” of the Firefly Fun House match at WrestleMania is intriguing, both because the Firefly Fun House was so good and because it will be interesting to see how this match differs.

Having more in-ring action and wrestling between Strowman and Wyatt is a good idea. They did a great job of telling a brief story at Money in the Bank, but they left open plenty more to tell in a second match, specifically with The Fiend coming out after Strowman successfully played mindgames with Wyatt. Few are capable of tricking Wyatt like that, and even fewer live to tell the tale. (Bear with me on this kayfabed plot explanation, I know that Wyatt was an all-bark-no-bite joke for years…)

It’s hard to enjoy wrestling right now, but for those of you who can do so and want to watch WWE Extreme Rules 2020, Wyatt vs. Strowman looks like a match we could be talking about for a long time, either because it’s another brilliant effort or because it fell short by a mile.
