5.) The New Day

The New Day are always solid and reliable tag team champions who are holding the fort in the SmackDown Tag Team Division. Although there is nothing exciting occurring with their title reign at the moment, they have remained relevant by battling the other tag teams in the SmackDown Tag Team Division on a weekly basis. Their current rivals are Artist Collective’s Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura, who are basically plan B’s for the Forgotten Sons and buying time until their leader, Sami Zayn, returns to in-ring action.

4.) Otis

Mr. MITB Otis has also remained decently relevant on the blue brand. Although it’s difficult to believe that he would be a future Universal Champion, he has been picking up victories and gaining momentum. Only caveat is that most of these victories are tag victories, which don’t prove any superstar’s worthiness in winning singles gold. Nonetheless, crazier things have happened with the MITB briefcase, so it’s only a matter of time before the WWE Universe witnesses what the WWE will do Otis’ MTIB aspirations.

3.) AJ Styles

AJ Styles won the Intercontinental Championship that Sami Zayn never lost in a fraudulent tournament that quite frankly ended in a phenomenal match with Daniel Bryan. That championship match did not waste any signature/finisher maneuvers in two-count near falls. There were beautiful counters, gracefully executed submission holds, and a clean finish. A clean finish and a heel victory do not usually go hand in hand, but it works for AJ Styles who no longer has Gallows and Anderson to back him up and whose gimmick is dictated by ‘zero’ handouts.

2.) Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy is involved in a storyline with Sheamus that is predicated on his past alcoholic addiction and drug abuse. Unfortunately, Eric Bischoff’s mantra of ‘controversy creates cash’ took precedence over a standard storyline that could have built up two superstars whom the WWE fans can be hyped up to watch and pay to watch in a PPV match. Nonetheless, Hardy has turned an inane storyline into something beautiful by promoting his redemptive path to becoming a better person who won’t let his past nightmares dictate his future dreams.

1.) Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman is the current Universal Champion and face of the SmackDown brand. While his feud with Morrison and Miz was comical, his ongoing feud with the duplicitous Bray Wyatt has been compelling, They will have a Wyatt Swamp non-title match at WWE Extreme Rules 2020, where Wyatt will very likely win to earn another championship opportunity against Strowman at WWE SummerSlam 2020. Nonetheless, Strowman has been pulling his weight as Universal Champion and it is clear that he has improved and has a stronger impact on SmackDown.
