NXT Great American Bash: Get ready for Asuka to cost Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks is in for an eventful night at NXT Great American Bash.
On Wednesday night, wrestling fans will get to witness two incredible shows, as WWE will put on NXT Great American Bash at the same time as AEW’s Fyter Fest. And the biggest match on the Black and Gold brand’s television special is undoubtedly the non-title bout between NXT Champion Io Shirai and Tag Team Champion Sasha Banks.
Banks and Shirai are two of the best wrestlers on this planet. They’ve been putting on instant classics for years, and wrestling fans have been waiting for them to face off against each other for quite some time. That dream match is coming this Wednesday, and it should absolutely be a Match of the Year contender.
It could also feature some important storytelling threads for Sasha Banks, who has another big match on the horizon in July when she faces Raw Women’s Champion Asuka at Extreme Rules.

Asuka and Sasha battled it out in the main event of Raw this week, with Sasha picking up the victory by countering the Asuka Lock into a pin. Banks has been on a roll lately, picking up plenty of pins in Women’s Tag Title matches and now this main event mixed tag match.
She also has a key advantage in these major singles matches with Bayley in her corner. Bayley isn’t just the other half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions; she’s also the SmackDown Women’s Title and the most dominant Blue Brand champion in recent memory.
The Role Model could play into the equation at NXT Great American Bash, helping The Boss defeat The Genius of the Sky, Io Shirai.
However, don’t be surprised if The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka, shows up at the brand she was once THE most dominant champion in history for, with an undefeated streak that shattered Goldberg. Asuka has no love for the arrogant Banks, and if Banks and Bayley think the can mess with the current NXT Women’s Champion by using the numbers game, they will be in for a surprise when Asuka makes the save.
Don’t be surprised if Bayley tries to cost Shirai the match, and it all ends up backfiring on her when Asuka shows up to both help Shirai and add more fuel to her high-profile title defense with Sasha Banks at Extreme Rules.
Banks vs. Asuka can be one of the defining feuds of the summer, so WWE need to pull out all the stops for it, especially since all the spotlight on Sasha and Bayley also ends up furthering that future big-ticket Pay Per View feud.
