WWE NXT: Tegan Nox finally vanquishes Dakota Kai, will challenge Io Shirai
At NXT: Great American Bash, Tegan Nox picked up a huge win defeating Candice LeRae, Mia Yim, and Dakota Kai to earn a shot at the NXT Women’s Title.
NXT: Great American Bash opened with a bang as four standouts of the brand’s women’s division squared off in an elimination match to determine the number one contender for WWE NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai. Going into the match, the favorite was likely “The Poison Pixie” Candice LeRae, but she turned out to be the first competitor eliminated.
Despite LeRae’s disappointment, the night proved to be a difference-maker for the eventual winner. Mia Yim was the second to be eliminated, leaving only Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai.
These two seem destined to battle forever, and every time they square off we see once again exactly why that’s such a great thing. Kai and Nox have undeniable chemistry in the ring, and their history runs deep going back to Kai’s shocking betrayal at NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019.

They really lit up the final stretch of an already spectacular match, with Dakota Kai looking extremely close to victory on more than one occasion. However, when the dust finally settled, it was the Captain Marvel-inspired Tegan Nox who picked up arguably the biggest singles victory of her career.
While Nox does technically have one victory over Kai from a short match back in January, she hasn’t had a decisive one quite like this. Nox took on Kai in a Street Fight at NXT TakeOver: Portland, but came up short.
The two fought again inside a Steel Cage on the March 4 edition of WWE NXT, but once again Dakota Kai was victorious. It had gotten to the point that Tegan Nox was seeming less and less valid as a contender.
She could secure big moments and impress time to time in tag team competition, but when the big stage was set Tegan Nox seemed unable to get the job done. That finally changed at WWE NXT: Great American Bash, and Nox was able to decisively pin Kai to earn a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
Now, Tegan Nox will turn her attention to Io Shirai, who is taking on Sasha Banks in the main event of WWE NXT: Great American Bash. Should Banks secure the victory, she would also have a claim to a future shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.

Whenever she does get the opportunity, Tegan Nox will now look to carry this momentum into her first taste of championship gold since arriving on the Black and Gold brand. Of course, taking the title from Io Shirai will be no easy task.
