AEW Fyter Fest 2020: Why Orange Cassidy should beat Chris Jericho
Orange Cassidy will finally face off against Chris Jericho on Night Two of AEW Fyter Fest 2020.
It’s finally happening.
Only July 8, the wrestling world will be treated to a match they’ve wanted since AEW‘s inception: Orange Cassidy versus Chris Jericho at AEW Fyter Fest 2020.
Cassidy is one of the hottest wrestlers on the planet. Jericho is one of the most legendary wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots. After the craziness that has been 2020, we need this.
Here’s a quick recap of how we were finally given this gift. A few weeks ago, Jericho called out “The Baddest Man on the Planet” and assumed that Mike Tyson would appear.
Wrong. The answer is clearly Cassidy.
Things escalated when OC put Jericho’s hands in his belt before putting his hands in his own pockets. Hager tried to come after him, but “Freshly Squeezed” was too fast and was literally lifted to safety by Best Friends.
The following week, “Le Champion” beat Cassidy to a bloody pulp with a bag of blood oranges. Cassidy retaliated the next week by putting Jericho through a table with a Superman Punch.
This also helped fuel Cassidy’s rage:
Cassidy has been the czar of calmness. To see him get angry enough to put “The Painmaker” through a table was jarring. On top of that, the final shot of Dynamite was a bloody Cassidy giving a thumbs up. It showed fans another side of the usually aloof wrestler. It’s always nice to see Jericho get his comeuppance.
In the later years of his career, Jericho has often put over up-and-coming talents. WWE used him in this position frequently. He’s already done it in AEW with Jungle Boy and Pineapple Pete. While he’s been wrestling since 2004, Cassidy could use the rub from Jericho. This will by far be the biggest match of his AEW career.
Cassidy is a burgeoning star and beating someone of Jericho’s caliber would be a giant boost for him. It would also silence the Negative Nancys that think Cassidy can’t actually wrestle. Losing to OC wouldn’t hurt Jericho. He was the company’s inaugural champion, not to mention he’s already been in the business for decades.
While Cassidy is a perfect part of the Best Friends trio, it’ll be nice to see him catapulted as a solo star. He currently sits at 4-4 on the year. A win over Jericho puts him over .500. It’s time to see Cassidy start racking up wins and hopefully put him in line for a shot at Cody’s TNT Championship.
In a year of very bad things, Orange Cassidy getting a win over Jericho is the bright spot we all need.
