If Drew McIntyre doesn’t face Brock Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam 2020, he could have a more interesting matchup.

WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has excelled with the title around his waist since WrestleMania 36 when he defeated Brock Lesnar. McIntyre has been on the rise since his dream Royal Rumble win, which included Claymoring a previously unstoppable Beast Incarnate straight over the top rope.

Wrestling fans have been wondering when Brock Lesnar will appear on our screens next, and the speculation is that he’ll be called up again at the Biggest Party of the Summer. He usually is, and like last year when he put over Seth Rollins at both WrestleMania and SummerSlam, he could do the same for McIntyre.

According to Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue speaking on the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast with Korey Gunz, via Sportskeeda’s Lennard Surrao, it’s possible that if Lesnar cannot make the move from Canada to the United States for SummerSlam, then McIntyre’s title defense could occur against Randy Orton.

Now Colohue is speculating and not specifically reporting, but he’s a WWE insider who has nailed so many reports in the past, so he’s clued in to what’s going on. Orton vs. Edge was reportedly supposed to be the big match at SummerSlam, but with Edge out due to a torn triceps, that’s completely up in the air.

As for McIntyre, he’s been promoting the fact that a match at SummerSlam with Orton would be a dream rivalry, which is undoubtedly true. And the reality is that Orton vs. McIntyre would be a much more interesting title match than a second matchup between Lesnar and McIntyre after they already faced off at WrestleMania 36.

Orton is at the top of his game right now, and the feud with Edge has definitely helped him sink his teeth into his best wrestling and character work in years. With the way McIntyre is going as champion, though, the Chosen One could be just as compelling of a dance partner for Orton as Edge in a one-off title match at a venue as big as SummerSlam.
