Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre is a rumored WWE SummerSlam 2020 main event, and it could lead to The Viper having his hand raised.

Whenever a WWE superstar has a title feud with Dolph Ziggler, it means creative is out of opponents and their reign could be a short one. That will be the worry for Drew McIntyre coming out of the Horror Show at Extreme Rules and heading into SummerSlam, as McIntyre’s title defense will be against his former tag team partner.

Thereafter, McIntyre is expected to feud with Randy Orton, though nothing is set in stone since Orton has also been pitching SummerSlam matches with two NXT stars, per reporting from WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor.

But Orton vs. McIntyre looks like the best bet. They are two proven names, two great athletes, and two guys who have yet to lock up in a major rivalry. If they do get their SummerSlam main event, don’t be surprised if Orton gets the win.

According to WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis, there’s an idea still on the table where McIntyre would actually drop the title at SummerSlam to Orton, and then The Viper would have a world title feud with Edge in the final match of their storied 2020 rivalry following Edge’s epic Royal Rumble return. That match would occur at the 2021 Rumble or WrestleMania 37, per the report.

What would be McIntyre’s fate? WrestlingNews.Co says that the idea includes a big win for McIntyre in the end, as WWE could give the newly-crowned top male star of Raw a chance to have a true defining victory in front of fans. Due to COVID-19, he was unable to beat Brock Lesnar in front of a live crowd during the second night’s main event of WrestleMania 36.

This plan sounds intriguing, to say the least. Orton is putting in arguably the best work of his career right now, and he and Edge are telling a special story that would be befitting of the world title. Meanwhile, WWE are quickly running out of challengers for McIntyre after he already beat Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins. But McIntyre needs to be the big title winner in the end and has wanted to have a big moment in front of the fans who have accepted him as one of the top stars.
