Hikaru Shida

The current AEW Women’s Champion, Hikaru Shida is honestly among the best wrestlers on this planet and can rival the likes of Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and Pac as the best overall wrestler in the company.

That is effusive praise, but the champion has shown consistently that she deserves it. I can’t think of many strikers in AEW who are as potent as Shida. Everything she does in the ring is legit, and between her striking ability and technical skills, AEW have a truly special wrestler in Shida.

An excellent babyface champion whom everyone can get behind, each of Shida’s title matches have been a treat. Her recent Fyter Fest bout with Penelope Ford was the Match of the Night for All Elite, and her title win in a No DQ match against Nyla Rose was incredible.

Shida will hopefully have several more months with the title around her waist, and she may even have unfinished business with Rose once Rose picks a manager. It’s hard to think of many wrestlers who have shined as much as Shida has in 2020, as her one-off matches on Dynamite are must-see for fans who love great in-ring action. Shida is the kind of wrestler you can build a division around, which is precisely why she is the third AEW Women’s Champion.
