THIS is what you’re doing with Naomi?

#NaomiDeservesBetter filled the halls of Wrestling Twitter last night, as WWE SmackDown, once again, did not threat one of their best superstars properly. They literally had her lose to a newly-heel Lacey Evans when Evans tied up her braids on the bottom rope, leading to the Women’s right finish. Talk about culturally insensitive and disrespectful. And this was hours after Evans posted a video on social media calling Naomi’s hair on her shoe “left over nasty”.

It’s good that WWE finally ended the charade of Evans as a babyface, because there is literally no reason to cheer a character who was committing microaggressions week after week as a face. But Evans’ heel push shouldn’t come at the expense of Naomi, who really should be a champion in WWE again by now.

Naomi won the SmackDown Women’s Title twice in 2017, as her first reign was cut short by injury. But WWE didn’t even take full advantage of her second reign, never giving her a credible rival until she lost the title at SummerSlam to Natalya. They didn’t even sell her Glow Title despite its popularity.

WWE continues to fail Naomi in 2020, and, in doing so, they are also failing Black wrestling fans by booking Naomi in a way that is disrespectful and also far below her Hall-of-Fame level of talent.
