WWE Extreme Rules 2020 took place on July 19 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT live on the WWE Network with the kickoff show beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.

WWE Extreme Rules 2020! This was the PPV where rules were broken, but it seemed that WWE had taken that theme a step further by calling this the horror show, especially when considering the innovative Eye for an Eye match between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio as well as the Wyatt Swamp Fight between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt.

It was undeniable that this PPV would have strong implications for the feuds that will blossom on the road to the biggest event of the summer, WWE SummerSlam 2020. With that being said, the following provided results, highlights, and grades for WWE Extreme Rules 2020, starting with Kevin Owens vs. Buddy Murphy in the kickoff show.

Kevin Owens vs. Buddy Murphy [Grudge Match]

Result: Kevin Owens

Rating: 3.5/5.0 Stars

Grade: B-

Kevin Owens quickly attempted Stunners at the start of the match but Buddy Murphy countered every time. Owens delivered a beautiful DDT to gain some babyface momentum. He rallied to deliver a CannonBall for the very close two-count. Murphy rallied back with a Flying Meteora to Owens for another close nearfall.

Murphy countered the Pop Up Powerbomb and the Superkick to deliver the brainbuster for the third close nearfall of the match. Owens delivered a Moonsault to Murphy for a two-count. He delivered a Superkick to Murphy and a rebounded Stunner for the three-count and the victory. Owens picked up the dub.

Analysis: Fun kickoff match and solid babyface victory to set the right tone for the PPV. Hopefully, this victory sets up Owens for a championship opportunity. He is lost in the shuffle in the Raw mid-card, so this would be a good time to finally have a creative direction for the Prizefighter. He should have had a creative direction after defeating Rollins at WrestleMania 36, but booking is directionless, unfortunately.
