Seth Rollins versus R-Truth would be an interesting angle in WWE

Creativity is key in professional wrestling. New characters moves and costumes will always build intrigue around the personalities that perform in the ring. There’s value in creating different angles and rivalries within wrestling as well. That is why the idea of pitting R-Truth as the next foil to Seth Rollins creates something different and intriguing at the same time. We have seen a lot out of both men in their career but seeing them work together now would be a much-needed breath of fresh air for them both and WWE content at large.

On Monday, R-Truth was a special guest host on Raw Talk with Charly Caruso. Rollins was one of the guests of the evening. During the conversation Truth and Rollins got into a back-and-forth around the eye-for-an-eye stipulation that occurred at WWE Extreme Rules where Rollins defeated Rey Mysterio. The moment was brief, but it was enough to pique the interest of some who were watching the show or caught the clip across social media in the hours that followed. The possibility of pairing them against each other may be a long shot at this time, it would be a shot in both their arms at a time when they need something different.

Let us start with Rollins. He is played well into the Monday Night Messiah gimmick, as one of the few credible, despised heels on WWE television. With Buddy Murphy and Austin Theory by his side, he is tormented several people the last few months. Aleister Black and Kevin Owens are at the top of the list as the main two feuds for Rollins outside of the Mysterio angle during these last few months. Now that Mysterio is incapacitated and Black seemingly injured on Monday Night Raw, that creates a space for R-Truth to step in as an opponent for a mini-angle across the next few weeks, potentially through SummerSlam. According to Cage Match statistics, Rollins and R-Truth have never faced off in a one-on-one match. Now’s a better time than any to test it out.

At first glance, many will want to denigrate R-Truth as a comedy character that should not be taken seriously. Yes, he has played the joke for majority of his time in the WWE, and while some of that may be due to the WWE struggling to book wrestlers of color outside of stereotypical gimmicks, Truth has shown that he has the chops for series angles when the time comes. R-Truth does the comedy very well for the most part, but he is also performed well when pitted in major angles with names like John Cena, The Miz, John Morrison and Mysterio. He is also the first African American to win the NWA heavyweight championship, an accolade that escapes many memories. Twenty-Four/Seven title aside, R-Truth has held many titles throughout his career.

The WWE is in a holding pattern of sorts as COVID-19 has limited the availability of its roster. For Rollins, that leaves him without many interesting feuds. Keeping him out of the title picture is also the right move as he is already lost to Drew McIntyre. An angle with R-Truth to keep him active until the next storyline takes off does not diminish his role in any way. R-Truth has worked with every level of WWE roster member, from Brock Lesnar down to Drake Maverick. He can make a hold-over feud with Rollins work to all our entertainment.

WWE: Now is the time to move Kevin Owens back to NXT. dark. Next

WWE prides itself as being the bastion of sports entertainment. Creativity is one of those pillars in that avenue. It is a pillar that is struggling throughout WWE content currently. Seth Rollins and R-Truth have bene two of the most consistent men on the roster during this global pandemic. Pitting them against each other for a short time will allow them to do something different and entertaining until there’s room for major angles to commence.
