Although Randy Orton wants to work with NXT stars like Adam Cole and another former champion in Tommaso Ciampa, it’s more likely he has a big title match with Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam 2020.
The story writes itself at this point. McIntyre is the brand’s top babyface as the world champion, while Orton has established himself as the best heel signed to the brand. Orton has been on a path of destruction, killing legends like the Big Show and Edge, whom he still has to face one last time in a truly testing stipulation match.
Edge vs. Orton, per reports, such as this one from WrestlingNews.Co, is set to happen again at WrestleMania 37 and could be with the title on the line. And that means Orton is expected to win the WWE Title off McIntyre at SummerSlam so that Drew can win the title back at a later date when it is safe for fans to cheer him on.
Orton vs. McIntyre could be a SummerSlam title match for the ages. Wrestling fans have been itching to see a high-quality world title match at SummerSlam that can truly be called one of the all-time great matches since John Cena and AJ Styles left it all in the ring four years ago.
