R-Truth vs. Orange Cassidy

The second I saw Fite TV’s original tweet, this was my first thought. And I know that somewhere along the way, the purists are screaming at their computer screens at the supposed abomination this match would be. But from my point of view, wrestling is like music — there are a million different genres underneath the umbrella of the art form, and just because you prefer one style doesn’t mean the others aren’t valid.

R-Truth is perhaps the most decorated of WWE’s comedic wrestlers. In WWE, he’s held the United States Championship twice, been a Tag Team Champion alongside Kofi Kingston, and won the 24/7 Championship roughly 723 time (citation needed). To speak of his longevity, he’s also a two-time Hardcore Champion — not to mention he’s a former world champion.

But it’s Truth’s persona that captivates the WWE Universe, and his brand of character would be well complimented by the apparent apathy of Orange Cassidy. While Truth is a fast-talking scatterbrain, OC is much more laid back — almost to the point of being mistaken for sleeping. In the ring, it could be a glorious marriage of laughter and athleticism.

“Freshly Squeezed” only tries when absolutely necessary, as he has demonstrated throughout his AEW career. Truth is constantly looking over his shoulder from the paranoia of his perpetual chase for or defense of the 24/7 Championship. Would either be able to focus long enough to string together an offensive onslaught? Would Truth try to emulate OC’s hands-in-pockets schtick and somehow mess it up, costing him the match?

Whatever may be in the cards, both men are seriously accomplished wrestlers who are able to put on an entertaining show, no matter the circumstances. For that reason, it deserves a spot on this hypothetical card.
