Per the latest WWE Rumors, Dominik is getting a push as part of the company’s effort to keep Rey Mysterio.
Future WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is currently working for the promotion without a set contract, as the two sides have been in negotiations for the past several weeks. WWE don’t seem to be willing to meet Mysterio’s demands, as the legendary wrestler and babyface understandably wants to be paid accordingly.
But WWE trusts Mysterio to come up work and not cause any problems despite not working out a deal, so he wrestled an Eye for an Eye match with Seth Rollins on Pay Per View. He and Rollins have been a part of one of Raw’s biggest angles in 2020, and it’s an angle that has now involved his son Dominik.
Some fans are curious as to why Dominik is receiving so much screen time, to the point where people are wondering if he could have a big match at SummerSlam.
According to Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue, WWE is giving Dominik a strong push right now as part of their overall effort to convince Rey to re-sign. Dominik’s success is undoubtedly important to Rey, and Colohue says that both parties actually agreed to pushing Dominik as part of his prior deal that expired. And since Dominik wasn’t pushed, it’s reportedly led to hesitancy from Rey to re-sign as well.
Hopefully, WWE and Mysterio can work something out that includes Dominik, though Dominik will have to keep picking things up. He shouldn’t be treated special because he’s Rey’s son, but it is perfectly reasonable for the legendary wrestler to want assurances that WWE, a company famous for haphazard booking and talent development, will treat Dominik fairly.
Dominik has shown a great deal of potential with his character work and some of the subtle things in pro wrestling like timing, but he has a lot of work to do.
