WWE Rumors: Why Kofi Kingston is off television for six weeks

Per the latest WWE Rumors, there is a simple, positive explanation for why Kofi Kingston will be off television before SummerSlam.

On the July 20 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, WWE fans saw one of the most important backstage interactions of the summer when Kofi Kingston gave his New Day stablemate Big E a blessing to forge ahead as a singles competitor going into August.

The heartwarming interaction had a kayfabe explanation: Kingston will have to miss six weeks with an injury.

That led to some wrestling fans wondering if Kingston is actually injured, but Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue revealed on the Dropkick DiSKussions podcast with Korey Gunz that Kingston is taking a break from WWE TV for a happier reason.

Per Colohue, via Sportskeeda.com’s Lennard Surrao, Kingston is taking a six-week “quarantine period” in order to spend time with his family. Colohue says that WWE is giving the option for all superstars to take time off work if they want to be with their families, and they simply have to notify the company. He points to Daniel Bryan and Kevin Owens as examples of other big stars taking time off to be with their families during the pandemic.

It’s a relief to hear that Kofi Kingston is not injured, and hopefully he’s having some meaningful time with his family and relaxing as much as possible. (And yes, it can be difficult to relax during a pandemic, we’re all there right now.)

In the meantime, Big E should have an incredible run to SummerSlam and has world champion written all over him. E’s first singles match on this run against The Miz went swimmingly well, and you just know Kingston is going to have a great time watching his tag team partner’s run heading into SummerSlam.
