On last week’s WWE Raw, R-Truth crashed the VIP Lounge to make a calculated attempt at winning back the 24/7 Championship from Shelton Benjamin. Unfortunately, that attempt failed due to Benjamin’s series of indomitable counterattacks, and this brief interaction led to their heated conversation during Raw Talk after the show.
On this week’s WWE Raw, R-Truth will receive a scheduled championship rematch for the 24/7 Championship. Shelton Benjamin will retain the championship to solidify a new era for this championship, allowing it to escape its comical past and welcome a series of weekly open challenges that could bring about show-stealing matches.
In terms of the United States Championship, the situation is a tad tricky. If Apollo Crews returns, he will defeat MVP to retain the United States Championship and later lose the championship to Bobby Lashley at WWE SummerSlam 2020. If he does not return by SummerSlam, Mustafa Ali will dethrone MVP to become the new United States Champion.
When it comes to the future of this championship, it’s all a matter of perspective. Was MVP’s self-declarative victory via forfeit against the absent Apollo Crews at WWE Extreme Rules 2020 legitimate or farcical? Once the WWE fanbase receives a clear answer to that question, the rest will be academic.
