SummerSlam is around the corner, and while John Cena isn’t scheduled for the Pay Per View, that hasn’t stopped him from teasing an appearance.

Professional wrestling is all about generating interest and teasing the fans, and there’s nobody better at putting the audience in the palm of his hands than John Cena. He’s done it for years, and whether it’s on the mic or on social media, Cena knows how to keep us all guessing and invested in what he’s doing.

The last we saw of Cena, he was involved in the groundbreaking cinematic match dubbed a “Firefly Funhouse Match” at WrestleMania 36 with Bray Wyatt. Both men put on some more great work on the mic before the “match” and then knocked the wacky skit out of the park at ‘Mania.

Cena isn’t booked for SummerSlam on Aug. 23, but, as we’ve come to know, that hasn’t deterred him from posting a teaser on social media.

“Stone Cold SummerSlam”. It’s like a two-for-one tease here. Because not only is he making it seem like he could show up in some capacity at SummerSlam, but he’s also teasing an appearance from another legend in Stone Cold Steve Austin.

I don’t think anyone seriously thinks Cena is going to show up at the Biggest Party of the Summer this year, though the old pro wrestling saying “never say never” comes to mind. I mean, WWE is pulling out all the stops with this “Thunderdome” business, and they did tell us that we’ll never see it coming at SummerSlam…

No, no, I’m not going to put on my conspiracy hat like R-Truth, though, now that I think of it, the dots could connect because R-Truth grew up idolizing John Cena, right?

OK, OK, so it’ll be another big Pay Per View without Cena, which is, in all honesty, all for the better. Though I have to admit, a SummerSlam without Cena always feels weird, considering he has one of the greatest SummerSlam resumes ever.
