WWE fans should no longer expect to see Finn Balor used the once-beloved Demon King character in WWE NXT.

When Finn Balor first started up with WWE as the top male star on the WWE NXT brand, he created a “Demon King” alter ego character that was one of the most popular gimmicks in wrestling. Fans flocked to wear Demon-themed merchandise and fell in love with Balor’s latest character, which led him to becoming the first-ever Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016 shortly after his main roster debut.

But the Demon hasn’t been seen since Super ShowDown in 2019 when Balor defeated Andrade. The character still has an aura around it and is still held in high regard by the fans, but we’re closing in on a year of Balor in NXT and have yet to see the “Demon King” arrive.

According to Sportskeeda reporter Tom Colohue in a preview of the post-SummerSlam episode of Raw, via Sportskeeda.com’s Kishan Prasad, there are “no plans” for Finn Balor to use the “Demon King” character in WWE again.

Colohue goes as far as to say that the decision to bring back the Demon in the future is in Balor’s court, and while he could go back to it, the wrestler himself is said to not even “want” to use the character anymore. Balor reportedly saw the Demon as a “bad thing” on the main roster.

Finn Balor has found a new character in WWE NXT

It’s a surprise to hear that Balor feels this way about the Demon character, but it does make sense if you think about how he was used on the main roster when he wasn’t the Demon. It kind of restricted him to being special with the Demon but being portrayed as “just another guy” when he was just “Finn Balor”. And that’s not really fair to him.

He’s been portraying a totally different, more menacing character in WWE NXT that is in line with the character he portrayed in NJPW as one of that promotion’s biggest stars. Balor hasn’t won the NXT Title yet, but he’s elevated a lot of wrestlers and still feels like a big deal on the Black and Gold brand without a belt around his waist.

Maybe we will see Balor bring back the Demon one day, but, for now, we’ll enjoy Balor’s current character work on most Wednesday nights.
