Alexa Bliss is back on WWE SmackDown after missing the previous week’s episode, but she’s been changed by the Fiend.
In her WWE career, Alexa Bliss has had about four distinct gimmicks. Her first gimmick was as a happy-go-lucky babyface in NXT that mirrored her cheerleading background. When she was first called up to WWE SmackDown, she was a heel compared to Harley Quinn. Then she took on a different heel persona as a multi-time champion on Raw before turning babyface with Nikki Cross.
And now, we’re entering the great unknown with Bliss after she was attacked by the Fiend and, later, Braun Strowman.
Bliss wasn’t on the SummerSlam card, but she played an instrumental role in actually getting people invested in the Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt feud. Fans wondered if Bliss had aligned herself with the Fiend, speculating that she could be Sister Abigail.
On the Aug. 28 episode of WWE SmackDown, Nikki Cross and Tamina appeared backstage talking about how they were worried about Bliss when the former SmackDown Women’s Champion showed up to surprise them.
Alexa Bliss snapped on Nikki Cross
At first, all seemed well, but then things unraveled pretty quickly. It looked like Bliss had been changed into her first babyface character by the Fiend, as she seemed preppy. But then, Cross notice her hair was braided like the Fiend, and when confronted a little bit, Bliss snapped, smashing a cup on the ground.
So maybe she’s not going back to that “cheerleader” gimmick…or maybe she is but it’s a heel version twisted by her interaction (or even alignment) with the Fiend.
Either way, Alexa Bliss – and by extension, Nikki Cross – is an interesting position on SmackDown. She’s far out of the title pictures, which revolve around top stars Sasha Banks and Bayley, but she should be headed for a major program with Cross and maybe a second storyline with Bray Wyatt down the road.
Exciting times are ahead for a lot of wrestlers in WWE, and Bliss, one of the company’s top stars, is certainly one of them.
