WWE Payback 2020: 3 possible upsets to watch
WWE Payback 2020 will take place tonight, and here are three upsets to watch out for.
After SmackDown ended with Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman joining forces, hype levels have been through the roof for WWE Payback 2020.
The Universal Title will be on the line, of course, but so will the United States Championship and Women’s Tag Team Titles.
Here are three possible upsets for fans to watch out for on Sunday night at the Amway Center. Upsets are based on the latest betting odds.
Sasha Banks and Bayley win
Based on what we saw on Friday night, we are moving forward with the Sasha Banks and Bayley breakup segment. Bayley basically blamed Sasha for losing to Asuka twice and threw her under the bus, outright stating that Sasha has a poor track record of defending the Raw Women’s Championship. And throughout the segment, Banks clearly looked upset.
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, their surprise Women’s Tag Title opponents at Payback, aren’t exactly on the same page either. And I’m not sure people are buying them as the next tag champions.
I could see WWE milking the final breakup angle and waiting until the Raw after Payback or the following Monday night to have Sasha and Bayley lose the titles. They have a better chance of retaining on Sunday than you might think.
Rey Mysterio and Dominik
Another highly-anticipated tag team matchup, Dominik and his father Rey Mysterio will compete in a potential show-stealer against Murphy and Seth Rollins. Last week at SummerSlam, Dominik blew us all away in his debut with a stellar performance against Rollins, though he ended up falling short at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
With Rey by his side, Dominik should be able to score a win at Payback over the Monday Night Messiah and his (seemingly) loyal disciple.
Rollins and Rey will have their own singles match on the following episode of Raw, and it will be the main event of the flagship show. Therefore, I see Rollins winning on Raw but coming up on the losing side in this tag match at Payback.
Apollo Crews
Bobby Lashley is the second-biggest favorite to win at Payback behind Big E, who will face Sheamus in a non-title match. But I don’t think it’s a guarantee that Lashley will defeat Apollo Crews for the United States Championship, even though most people seem to feel that way.
Sooner rather than later, Lashley will win the title and hold a championship again. He’s too good not to and has a huge role on Monday nights as the CEO of MVP’s Hurt Business faction, which also rules over the newly-minted Raw Underground.
However, I think Apollo will surprise people by defeating Lashley. He’s been on a hell of a run as the babyface United States Champion, restoring much-needed prestige to the title. It’s not time for him to drop the new championship belt just yet.
