Tommaso Ciampa will compete in a 60 minute Iron Man Match for the NXT Championship on Super Tuesday.

The NXT Championship is on the line since Karrion Kross had to relinquish it due to a separated shoulder. William Regal announced that four former NXT champions would be competing for the title: Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Finn Bálor and Adam Cole in a 60 minute Iron Man match.

Cole is looking to start a new reign. He saw his first title reign end on July 8 after holding it for a record 403 days. Bálor has the next longest reign at 292 days. Gargano won the vacated championship and held it for just 57 days (Cole beat him to begin his historic run).

As I mentioned, Gargano won the vacated title.

The man who vacated that title? Ciampa.

Neck surgery prematurely ended his reign at 238 days.

Since then, he has competed in a War Games match, lost to Bålor in a #1 contender match, briefly reunited DIY with Gargano before resuming their rivalry in One Final Beat.

Ciampa returned this week after an extended absence because creative had nothing for him. Imagine having nothing for one of your cornerstone Superstars, but I digress. Relinquishing the title has really effected him. “The wrestling business, like life, is full of waves. Highs and lows. One moment you feel untouchable, the next you come crashing down. Giving up the Title is definitely one of my career lows. And to be honest, damn near everything that’s happened in my career since has been a disappointment.”

Losing the NXT Championship has made him angrier as we saw in his return. After beating Jake Atlas in what can only be described as a squash, he beat his opponent severely. The “Psycho Killer” has most definitely returned.

He is driven to get his beloved “Goldie” back. It has been his mission since his original return and he has failed. Each loss seems to push him deeper into a dark place. Ciampa uses that darkness to cause pain and create havoc as we saw with the Atlas attack. It gives him power to keep going, but makes him reckless. That recklessness can backfire.

Ciampa needs this win. It is his sole focus, mission and purpose. “Goldie” has become his Precious. Without it, he is Gollum. The longer that they are separated, the more desperate he gets. When he is desperate, Ciampa is dangerous.

Next. Finn Balor's NXT run is more about the roster than himself. dark

Who knows what could have been if Ciampa wasn’t forced to relinquish the NXT Championship? He was just 56 days away from breaking Bálor’s record when he was forced to vacate it.

One thing is for sure, Ciampa will not rest until “Goldie” is back home with Daddy.
