AJ Styles vs. CM Punk? WWE dream match? If you still think it’s possible, think again.

Most feuds in professional wrestling aren’t, you know, real, but there are occasionally some rivalries that extend well beyond the ring or screen. Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels is perhaps the most famous example.

CM Punk and AJ Styles are not exactly the modern-day equivalent to Hart and Michaels. Neither of them are as respected or charismatic as Hart and Michaels. But they are definitely excellent pro wrestlers and legends of the business in their own right, having been champions at the highest level across multiple promotions – not just WWE.

Their mutual success has not led to mutual respect. This summer, Punk rightfully called out Styles for not showing any public support for Black Lives Matter. Instead of doing the right thing and simply saying, “Black Lives Matter,” Styles decided to go on a rant about Punk. He said that he doesn’t respect Punk.

Again, he could have just said, “No, Punk has it wrong. I believe Black Lives Matter and that the police should stop murdering Black people.” Or something simple to that effect. Because yes, it is literally that simple.

AJ Styles is not a fan of CM Punk at all

In his latest Twitch stream, AJ Styles was asked by a fan about wrestling CM Punk one day. It’s a perfectly reasonable question for a fan to ask. Firstly, most people wouldn’t be aware of those comments made by Styles about Punk. Secondly, even if they were, they’d still want to know if there would be a chance of two of the best wrestlers of this generation going at it one day. Or if Styles would have the interest.

The answer from Styles wasn’t just, “Nope.”

No, see, that would be too simple and sensible to leave it at the first word he said. And to just say it’s not realistic at this stage of their careers etc.

Styles decided to make it clear that this is personal, via WrestlingInc.com’s Austin Lee:

"“Nope, that will never happen… I don’t have to go into detail about that one. I think it’s pretty obvious where things stand. I’m not a fan.”"

Not a fan because he called you out for not standing against racism and police violence? What is the explanation here?

Noting Styles’ usage of homophobic slurs and his awful response to the Gillette advertisement calling out the harmful, violent culture of toxic masculinity, Punk and many others were not surprised by Styles’ lack of vocal support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

But it’s quite amazing how much Styles holds a grudge over Punk for those tweets. He has no love lost for Punk and never wants to face him in the ring. All because Punk called him out for not doing the right thing. Going back to the Gillette ad disagreement, maybe Styles should be interested in their products. They have some shaving creams that are great for people with sensitive skin.
