Kenny Omega is ready for singles competition in AEW. Who should he face first?

AEW has been working on one of the most intriguing professional wrestling storylines in recent memory, that of the implosion of The Elite, one of the most popular stables in the industry today. As of now, the group comprises of four members: Cody, Kenny Omega, and the Young Bucks. A former member, “Hangman” Adam Page was kicked out of The Elite by the Young Bucks on a recent episode of Dynamite for costing the Bucks a shot at his and Omega’s AEW World Tag Team Championship titles.

There’s a lot of speculation as to why Page screwed his so-called friends out of the title shot. The eventual answer to that question promises to result in a huge angle that would be a cornerstone of All Elite Wrestling.

It also promises to result in a heel turn most likely, and with the recent developments on Dynamite, all signs point towards Omega. Turning Omega heel also seems to make the most sense, what with Hangman being one of the most over babyfaces on the roster. Moreover, with AEW delivering on promises they made from the start, you can trust they know what they’re doing and what the fans want.

Also, a heel turn for Kenny Omega is a very exciting prospect for fans who know of his fantastic heel work back in NJPW, where he was the charismatic leader of the biggest and baddest faction in NJPW and perhaps all of professional wrestling at the time, Bullet Club. The group rode roughshod over New Japan, winning all the top titles and defeating all the top babyfaces, with Omega at the forefront.

In what was arguably the apex of his decorated career, Kenny Omega defeated Kazuchika Okada to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in what has been heralded by many as the greatest match of all time, including Dave Meltzer, who gave the match an unfathomable 7-star rating.

Although Omega was a babyface at the time, this legendary rivalry with Okada was a direct product of his heel run as “The Cleaner”. He was nicknamed the “Best Bout Machine” by fans and even won the prestigious Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for Wrestler of the Year in 2018.

Thus, a repackaged Kenny Omega back in his “The Cleaner” skin, promises to be monumental for AEW, and here are 5 singles feuds to make his run truly epic.
