WWE: Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso build and 3 things SmackDown got right this week
Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso will be a huge deal at WWE Clash of Champions 2020
Jey Uso initially emerged out of nowhere to become Roman Reigns’ challenger at Clash of Champions, as he wasn’t even originally announced in the Fatal Four-Way No. 1 Contender’s match that set up this opportunity for the tag team legend. Jey joined the match after Sheamus attacked Big E in the parking lot.
But since becoming the top contender, Jey Uso has shown his ability to shine as a singles star. The talent has always been there.
Last week, we watched how Reigns stared down Jey from behind after Jey celebrated with the Big Dog’s Universal Title. And the best part is, WWE made Jey a smart babyface who noticed this. Yeah, he was excited to face his cousin and have a great match at Clash of Champions, but now he knows that something is up. Reigns and Paul Heyman are planning something.
He called out Roman for an answer, but Heyman responded first, saying that Reigns would address him later on the show in the ring. Not then and there. And it had to go through Heyman, showing how Reigns’ relationship with his family has changed.
And has it changed! Reigns tore apart Jey, even hitting his cousin from behind with a Superman Punch at the end of the segment. He held the Universal Title in Jey’s face, telling him that HE was the one who had to be the top star to provide for everyone in the family – and that it would never be Jey in that spot.
Between the amazing promos from Jey, the character work from Roman, Heyman’s respectful involvement, and the wonderful video packages, WWE fans are super excited for the title match this Sunday. Great work from literally everyone involved in making this a must-see match.
