WWE WrestleMania 37 to be moved from Los Angeles?
By Sam Gladen
WWE WrestleMania 37, previously believed to be taking place in the new State of the Art SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, may now be moving.
It was announced in February of this year, by Arash Markazi with the Los Angles Times, that the next iteration of the biggest Sports Entertainment event of the year, WWE WrestleMania 37, would be returning to Los Angeles for the first time since 2005. When WrestleMania 21 took place in the Staples Center.
That no longer seems to be the case, however, as there are several reports that the WWE is currently in talks with the city of Tampa Bay to return to the Raymond James Stadium for the next iteration in the series.
Reported by Gary Cassidy of InsideTheRopes.com and also by the WrestleVotes twitter account. There are current plans to move WrestleMania 37 from it’s previously announced location of the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
WrestleMania 36, of course, was not able to take place within the Raymond James Stadium due to the COVID-19 outbreak inside the United States. Due to the pandemic, WWE was not able to honor their contractual commitments to the city, and it is believed it cost the company nearly 22 million dollars in just gate revenue. Or revenue from ticket sales for the WWE branded events across the city for the weekend.
WWE has made moves indicating WrestleMania 37 will be in Tampa Bay
When you take into account that many independent companies also converge on the location of WrestleMania to run their own shows. As well as the fact that wrestling fans themselves view a trip to the selected location from around the world, as a religious pilgrimage of sorts. It is feasible that the loss of WrestleMania and other bookings lost the city of Tampa five times that number in potential revenue between hotels, food services, and venue rentals.
It has been reported by WrestleVotes that WWE has secured several venue sites and hotels around the city of Tampa Bay for the scheduled weekend of WrestleMania 37.
There has been no comment from WWE or it’s officials about the rumored change and all current WrestleMania advertising still currently reads as WrestleMania: Los Angeles.
