There is a new babyface emerging in the WWE Raw Women’s Division after the events that unfolded on Night 2 of the draft.

Although a lot happened on the Oct. 12 episode of WWE Raw, which was the second night of the draft, the biggest talking point was likely Lana becoming the new No. 1 Contender to Asuka’s Raw Women’s Championship before Hell in a Cell.

Lana picked up a shock victory in the main event battle royal, which featured competitors from Raw and SmackDown. Since she was taking table bumps week after week at the hands of Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, many fans worried she was being punished. Basically, nobody saw this win coming.

But that’s not all. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer News’ Dave Meltzer, via WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis, WWE now sees Lana as a babyface.

It makes sense. The logic is that because Lana took all those bumps but still won this battle royal, she is now a persevering babyface. Meltzer even said that someone within the company described Lana as a “massive babyface”, which is quite the praise indeed.

It makes sense for WWE to push Lana as a babyface

A couple of years ago, we saw how much Lana improved in the ring for a Money in the Bank ladder match. It’s undeniable that she’s worked hard in the ring to become a wrestler and more than just a manager, and Asuka is the perfect opponent for her in a WWE Raw Women’s Title match.

Davis adds that fans should not be surprised at any incoming babyface push for Lana, because Vince McMahon and the company have long been high on her.

And that makes sense, too, given some of the attention they’ve spotlighted on her as a heel in various storylines.

I’d like to see how this babyface run ends up for Lana, and I’m excited for her women’s title match against Asuka. There are a lot of great women on Raw after the draft, but WWE can take some time to build to those feuds first. Lana won’t beat Asuka, but a great match would go a long way in boosting her babyface run to start.
