AJ Styles showed up to WWE Raw for the first time with Jordan Omogbehin by his side. Here’s why this partnership is taking place.

Jordan Omogbehin is an unfamiliar name for most WWE fans, but they are familiar with his work on some level. He was the man standing in front of the door of Raw Underground, interacting with Shane McMahon before Raw’s third hour began. He was also one of Akira Tozawa’s ninjas.

Now, Omogbehin appears to be AJ Styles’ bodyguard on Monday nights, which we saw in a new storyline this week upon the Phenomenal One’s return to the Red Brand. Fightful Select first reported this would happen.

So why is Omogbehin being used in this way?

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, via WrestleTalk.com’s Liam Winnard, WWE wanted to call up Jordan Omogbehin to the main roster, but they didn’t want to make him wrestle before he’s ready.

WWE can’t put Jordan Omogbehin in an unfair spot, as he has potential

It sounds like Omogbehin still needs to develop in the ring, so WWE wanted to get him on the screen on Monday nights without risking hurting his credibility if he were to make a mistake before he’s ready. And that’s a good way to look out for a rising star, since WWE’s made the mistake of putting wrestlers in the ring before they are truly ready for television.

Based on what we’ve seen this summer, Omogbehin has a lot of potential. Making him Styles’ bodyguard is a risky move, because WWE will have to write this storyline carefully so that Omogbehin is used correctly and benefits from this.

Drew McIntyre could be Styles’ opponent after Hell in a Cell. That’s a dream feud, and it’s looking more like McIntyre could retain the world title to definitively end his rivalry with the Viper, which has gone on for months.
