FTR (c) vs. The Young Bucks – AEW World Tag Team Championship

FTR (c) vs. The Young Bucks – AEW World Tag Team Championship

Matt Jackson sold his ankle throughout the match due to the injury suffered from FTR Pillmanizing him. Nick Jackson spent more time in the ring than Matt in the early portions as they wanted to keep Matt protected due to his injury. However, knowing that they were at a disadvantage, they took Hardwood’s hand and drove it into the ring post, busting open Hardwood’s hand.

Matt Jackson went for a moonsault from the top rope, but Hardwood dodged and Matt tweaked his ankle and FRT went right at Matt Jackson’s leg. Hardwood got his hand wrapped by the doctor to keep him in the match and prevent the bleeding. It’s possible that Hardwood broke his hand, so this adds a little to the story of the match.

Matt Jackson pulled an Arn Anderson by feigning a punch and hitting a DDT and tagging out to Nick Jackson, the best hot tag in wrestling. Nick ran wild, bouncing all over the ring and the ringside area, taking out FTR. The nearfalls and exchange of big moves came soon after this, and it was excellent. The Bucks were trying everything to win the title, and FTR were trying everything to keep them.

Matt Jackson did a sole butt, but sold his ankle. Matt and Hardwood both went down after Hardwood threw a punch, and Matt threw a superkick. Hardwood looked at Matt with disgust, hit a lariat, and then tagged out and FTR hit DIY’s finish for a 2 count! The Bucks locked on stereo sharpshooters, but FTR made the ropes.

The Bucks hit the BTE Trigger, but the save was made at the last possible moment. Matt Jackson grabbed a chair and Hardwood told Matt to hit him. Matt refused and they went for the Metzler Driver, but Cash pulled Nick Jackson off the apron and powerbombed him through a ringside table before hitting the spike piledriver, but Matt Jackson got his foot on the ropes.

Dax and Cash then attacked the knee again, and Dax locked on an ankle lock. Nick Jackson came in and pushed Cash to the floor and hit a 450 splash on Dax for a 2 count, but it at least broke up the submission. Wheeler flipped off Matt Jackson and hit a superkick on him. Cash went for a springboard 450, but Matt Jackson dodged and Matt Jackson hit a superkick and pinned Cash Wheeler! FTR departed from their gameplan and lost because of it.

Result: The Young Bucks

Rating: ****1/2 (4.5 stars)

This was a fantastic tag match that saw The Young Bucks return to form and be the tag team that everyone has expected them to be. The selling and timing in this match was excellent. This match was hurt a bit during the build as it wasn’t clear if the Bucks were babyfaces until late in the build. Kenny Omega came out and celebrated with them while Hangman lurked at the entrance ramp.
