Big E winning a world championship
The Big E singles push is one of the most compelling long-term stories on SmackDown, but we’re all worried WWE will inevitably drop the ball on something that is a major slam-dunk. Because as much as we all want to be optimistic, we’re always worried about WWE given their earned track record for messing up.
But I think the month of January will be the key here. What does WWE do with E in January? Does he win the Royal Rumble? He’s the best pick to win the Rumble, and I can’t think of a wrestler who would benefit more from a Rumble win than E.
This year, Drew McIntyre was quietly becoming a key player on Raw before winning the Rumble, which was his huge “I’m a top star now” moment. And then he went on to win the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 36.
Big E could do the same, winning the Rumble and then beating Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 37.
Whoever beats Reigns is going to be a made man. Reigns is on another level right now in terms of his performances, and I could even see him holding the title well past WrestleMania and even into 2022. Seriously, he’s that good right now, and WWE are fully behind what he’s doing with his character as the “Tribal Chief” and Paul Heyman as his “manager”.
But if there’s one guy who I can buy beating Reigns at WrestleMania 37, then it is Big E. That statement should tell you how highly I think of E, but I’m not the only one. There are only a handful of wrestlers who are as well-respected and talented as E, and it would be a travesty if he never wins a world title on Raw or SmackDown.
A former NXT Champion and Intercontinental Champion and one of the greatest tag team wrestlers in the HISTORY of WWE, Big E has done more than enough to merit this opportunity. He should win the Men’s Rumble and the world title at WrestleMania.
