The New Day vs. The Street Profits

Result: The Street Profits win by pinfall

Grade: A+, You aren’t going to see many tag matches better than this in 2020, if any. The Street Profits and The New Day are both absolutely fabulous tag teams.

How about that match?

The Street Profits vs. The New Day was tabbed as a possible show-stealer by many fans, and it certainly lived up to expectations from start to finish. These four men pulled out all the stops, and I especially love how they played up the familiarity and respect between both teams. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford did their homework on Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, and we even saw Ford use Trouble in Paradise, Kofi’s own move.

It was awesome seeing The New Day not act like heels, but turn up the aggression and really lay it on The Profits both physically and verbally. This tactic allowed us to see a lot of Ford’s selling, and we got the most out of Dawkins’ hot tag and other flurries of offense.

There were so many nice touches to this match, beyond the unique moves used by both teams. I liked, for example, how The New Day went for the Midnight Hour, but it didn’t lead to a win since they couldn’t get the power from the Big Ending. And I also liked how the targeting of the ribs played into Ford’s Frog Splash being less effective, since he couldn’t capitalize with a pinfall due to the damage on his ribs.

Both teams knew each other so well and gave it their all in this match. This bout was a showcase of what tag team wrestling needs to be in WWE, and it’s one of the best matches you’ll see this entire year in the promotion. Watch it if you missed it.
