Sasha Banks vs. Asuka

Result: Sasha Banks wins via pinfall

Grade: A, Another excellent match between two of the best wrestlers in the industry.

Sasha Banks and Asuka had another awesome match, and there aren’t many wrestlers in WWE who have as good chemistry with each other from a technical standpoint. That much was clear at Survivor Series, as Asuka and Sasha had some more fluid and even frenetic exchanges on the mat that left fans truly on the edge of their seats.

I loved the pacing, spacing, and energy around this match. You could tell it was a bout between two of the absolute best in the entire industry trying to prove just that, and we got the classic we were anticipating. Sasha and Asuka only know how to put on great matches with each other.

What stood out to me about this match was the overarching story and how it dictated the procession of moves. So Asuka has always had Sasha’s number. Sasha already proved she can beat Bayley on Pay Per View. She then proved she can successfully retain the title. And now, she proved, as Becky Lynch once needed to, that she can beat Asuka clean in the middle of the ring. (And by winning via roll-up, we can get the future story around the Bank Statement, which Asuka did so well to resist.)

I enjoyed how calm Asuka was and how difficult she seemed to beat for Sasha at the beginning of the match, but as the match continued and Sasha stuck in there, she started to grow in confidence. And in the end, she used her guile to win a battle of roll-ups, showing the heart and tenacity that you need to remain champion. Just brilliant stuff.
