WWE WrestleMania 37: 5 early opponents for Edge
By Max Everett
Who should Edge face at WWE WrestleMania 37? Let’s look at five possible options.
WWE WrestleMania 37 marks 10 years since the last time Edge defended his World Heavyweight championship title at WrestleMania 27. It only bares thinking that with Edge now cleared and back in action (albeit injured at the moment) that he will have a prominent spot on the card against a worthy opponent.
With that in mind, here is my pitch for the five opponents who could face the rated R superstar at WrestleMania 37:
Christian
Let’s get the elephant in the room out straight away, no, Christian is not medically cleared at this exact moment. But neither were Edge or Daniel Bryan, and both have returned to thunderous applause in recent years. So with that in mind, who better than his best friend and former tag partner to wrestle at Mania? Due to the fact we can’t rely on Edge and Christian to wrestle a brutal and hardcore match that’s pulls out all the stops, the build will have to be right.
This could be presented as face vs face against each other with Christian looking to prove himself still able to go with Edge, or, we could have a Christian heel turn, costing Edge the title in a prior event. In either scenario, Edge should be the man to go over, beating out his best friend or ex-best friend in an encounter to roll-back the years.
Just think of the promos we could have, Christian as the heel ala Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 26 springs to mind, desperately looking to prove he is the better man and willing to cost Edge at all costs in order to get the match Edge won’t give him.
In terms of stipulation there is only two we can think of, either a classic singles match with win by pinfall or submission, or if we go the route of in-story Christian is not cleared, then have the match unsanctioned and let the battle commence. After Edge overcomes Christian, have the two embrace and walk out together to (Hopefully) a standing ovation.
