This one has sold itself. Edge’s return saw the savage Orton brutally beat him on the Raw that followed the rumble and set up a Mania feud culminating in a Last Man Standing match worthy of the returning legend. It must be said the match went on for far too long but the novelty of having Edge winning at WrestleMania in 2020 was too great for the criticism to damage the feud. The next Raw saw Orton admit Edge was the better fighter, but discredit his natural wrestling ability and challenged him to a classic single match.
Kayla Braxton rather unnaturally and uncomfortably speculated that the match would be “The greatest match ever”. Clearly, WWE has never seen Kenny Omega vs Kazuchika Okada. But I digress, the match was set up at Backlash and Orton overcame his opponent, proving his point to be true. The third match of the trilogy was expected and never came to fruition when Edge was revealed to have torn his bicep.
So, when Edge returns, it makes sense that he is going to want to best his nemesis in a rubber match and what better place to do it than at WWE WrestleMania 37?
We know they have the in-ring chemistry, the story is there and the fans want it. How to go about the build though? Randy Orton has seen himself embroiled with Drew McIntyre for the WWE title since his win over Edge, and even won the strap at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view.
He has since lost the belt to Drew as McIntyre heads into a battle with Reigns for brand supremacy, although we know Orton is not going to give up the title that easily. He is destined to face The Fiend at some point and as deserving as it is, I want that match to not take place at Mania. Fiend feud aside, my pitch would be for Orton to win the championship back at Royal Rumble, and later on in the night, Edge return in the rumble match and win.
This makes WrestleMania 37: Edge vs Orton, WWE championship on the line. This is would up the stakes for the conclusion to their trilogy, and either man can go over once again, even better yet is the possibilities for stipulations, Edge beat Orton in Last Man Standing, Orton outwrestled Edge; I pitch a unique idea, make Edge vs Orton a Three Stages In Hell match, starting the night with Orton beating Edge in a singles match, in the middle of the night have a street fight get Edge back in the tie and in the main event of WrestleMania, have Edge beat Orton in an I Quit Match for the WWE title and the definitive end to their saga.
From there, the possibilities are endless.
