WWE TLC 2020: 3 Possible Challengers for Roman Reigns
It is once again TLC time of year! With Christmas decorations going up around the world, WWE is decorating with Tables, Ladders, and Chairs.
There comes a time that you start questioning who, if anybody, can take down the big dog. It seems that time has come for “The Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns. Since returning to WWE at SummerSlam 2020, Roman has done more than take his spot back on the top of the company. Roman is doing his best work to date as a heel with Paul Heyman by his side. His feud against his cousin Jey Uso being a stand-out of both men’s careers.
Leading the SmackDown brand into Survivor Series, Roman proved himself as the dominant world champion in WWE by defeating the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Now that the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs pay-per-view is getting closer and it is time to determine a new number one contender for Roman’s Universal Championship. The question is who is next in line for “The Tribal Chief?”
Out of a roster full of potential challengers, it’s tough to narrow it down to three. However, that is the task at hand. There were many men that were considered as potential contenders, but I believe that these three are the most deserving. However, one superstar may already be calling his shot.
3. Jimmy Uso
While Jimmy is currently waiting to be cleared for in-ring action, it could be coming very soon. After tearing his ACL at WrestleMania 36, Jimmy has been out of action for the majority of the year. Reports say that Jimmy hopes to be cleared by the end of the year, but may not be cleared to return until January 2021. However, if he is cleared in time, he would be a perfect challenger.
Jimmy Uso has already been involved with Roman Reigns and his brother Jey’s recent feud. At October’s Hell in a Cell PPV, it was Jimmy who was crucial in his brother’s loss against Roman. When he was locked into the guillotine choke by Roman, Jey was forced to say “I Quit” to save his brother. By losing that match, The Uso’s have to acknowledge Roman as the tribal chief. While Jey Uso has fully acknowledged Roman, Jimmy Uso hasn’t been as accepting.
Jimmy was last seen at Survivor Series to give Jey a pep talk after his match. When approached by Roman, Jimmy asked Roman to take it easy on Jey to no prevail. Although, when Jimmy walked off and asked Jey to follow, Roman said Jimmy could go but Jey couldn’t. Later that same night, Jey was crucial to Roman defeating Drew McIntyre. However, with one brother humbled, Jimmy Uso may be preparing to take the chief to war.
2. Daniel Bryan
A few weeks ago, Daniel Bryan was brutalized by Jey Uso to prove a point to Roman. Jey wanted to prove his loyalty to his cousin, but could he have picked a worse person to attack? Daniel Bryan is not the man to mess with and Jey continues to do so. He has gone to war with the biggest and most dangerous in WWE time after time. Stepping up against Roman Reigns and his family is nothing new to Bryan. He has had numbers against him his entire career and continues to thrive.
Daniel is a five-time world champion in the WWE. However, Daniel has never won the Universal Championship. Although, he received an opportunity for the championship at last year’s Survivor Series facing “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Bryan came up short in that match but like most that fight The Fiend, Daniel changed from the feud.
For the first time in years, Bryan brought back the “Yes!” movement. Since then, Daniel has consistently put on great matches against the likes of AJ Styles and Drew Gulak. Knowing that this could be Daniel’s last run, it would be nice to see Daniel get another run with the world championship. However, if he wants to do so, he will have to take down The Bloodline like he once did The Authority.
1. Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens is certainly no stranger to the Universal Championship picture. It was only four years ago where Kevin Owens shocked everybody by winning the Universal Championship, thanks to a little help from Triple H. As the Universal Champion, Kevin showed that he belongs on the top of the card. Owens notably aligned himself with Chris Jericho during his championship reign; creating some hilarious moments.
Years later, Kevin Owens continues to run the KO show. He has become one of the most beloved superstars on the roster by the WWE Universe. Now, since being drafted to SmackDown, Owens has found himself mixed up with Roman Reigns in a potentially dangerous way. On this week’s episode of SmackDown, Kevin sent a powerful message to the Universal Champion.
Owens beat up Jey Uso and called out Roman Reigns to do something about it. However, Roman simply watched from the back as his cousin was victimized. Owens told Roman that he will be waiting for him and soon enough Roman will show up. Reigns may show up at TLC to deal with Kevin Owens with the championship on the line. However, Jey Uso will be lurking looking for revenge. Kevin may need some friends to take down this family.
