WWE NXT TakeOver WarGames 2020 Results, Grades and Analysis

Leon Ruff (c) vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Damian Priest for the NXT North American Championship

Result: Gargano pins Ruff to become a 3-time North American Champion

Grade: B+

Okay, this match was excellent in the ring but was let down slightly by the wacky booking.

Gargano isolated Leon Ruff at the beginning of the match, Ruff got some offense in, looked really impressive, but was treated like a ragdoll in the match.

Also, Damian Priest doesn’t want to hit Ruff at all, I mean, what did he think was going to happen?

Gargano and Ruff teamed up to take Priest out, but then Gargano isolated Ruff again. Gargano was trash-talking a lot throughout the match.

Priest beat up Gargano but wouldn’t let Ruff be in the match, he treated Ruff like a child, and finally, like a frustrated dad, put him through the barricade with a Razor’s Edge, and then looked concerned, you know, like a dad.

Ruff was helped to the back and Gargano and Priest had a great mini-match, Gargano kept talking trash to Ruff even though he wasn’t even there.

Ruff suddenly came out and hit a huge dive onto both guys on the outside.

The action then gets back to the ring, and Priest finally decides to hit Ruff.

Priest singlehandedly took out both guys and suplexed Ruff onto Gargano. Gargano tied Priest up in the ropes and locked in the Garga-No Escape on ruff in front of Priet. Priest, like a good dad, saved Leon.

Priest then chokeslammed Gargano and it looked like he had the match won, but multiple ghost figures appear.

Priest took them all out and then chokeslammed Gargano again on the apron, but then another ghost appeared and hit Priest with a led pipe. Gargano hit the One Final Beat DDT on Ruff and pinned him.

Okay, so what was the point of Leon Ruff as champion?

Anyway, it’s revealed that the ghost was Austin Theory, and I admit, I found the  “It was me all along” stuff pretty funny.

So goodbye Leon Ruff? Maybe Priest would adopt him.
