WWE WrestleMania 37 Rumors: Wait, Big E isn’t an option for Roman Reigns?
Big E vs. Roman Reigns sounds like an awesome WWE WrestleMania 37 main event on paper, but it looks like it won’t happen.
WWE has to get the Big E singles push right. In Big E, WWE have a fantastic wrestler whom the crowd is ready to get behind as a world champion. He is a former NXT Champion and Intercontinental Champion, and while another IC Title run would be nice, fans really wan to see him win the WWE or Universal Title in the future. And that could happen if he wins the Royal Rumble.
The problem is that WWE may not want Roman Reigns to lose the Universal Championship for a very long time. We could be headed for a situation where Reigns doesn’t put someone over at WWE WrestleMania 37, but, rather, at WrestleMania 38.
According to a report from the Wrestling Observer News’ Dave Meltzer, via WrestlingInc.com’s Sai Mohan, Big E “is not under consideration” as Reigns’ WrestleMania 37 opponent. Meltzer also reports that The Rock is a “no go”, so Daniel Bryan and Drew McIntyre are most likely.
I think some fans will be disappointed if we don’t get E vs. Reigns, but it may be for the best if the plan is to have Reigns hold the title for several more months. And honestly, Reigns should be champion for a long time, considering how good his work is and how much mileage WWE can get out of him having an all-time great run with the Universal Title for 12-18 months. If there’s anyone WWE can trust to keep things interesting as a champion for that long, then it is Reigns with Paul Heyman and, likely, both Usos by his side.
Big E should win a world title, though, and a Royal Rumble win would be incredible. But maybe he’ll have to be a great IC Champion first before winning a world title at WrestleMania 38. Slow-burn booking like this works in NJPW, and while it’s hard to trust WWE to get that kind of booking correct (since they fail so frequently), I would still hold out hope for E winning the big one.
