WWE: Three awesome Kevin Owens tag teams we missed out on
Kevin Owens is a former Universal Champion, but imagine him ruling WWE’s tag team division with an underrated star.
Heading into WWE TLC 2020, Kevin Owens has a chance to remind a more mainstream wrestling audience why he is one of the most talented people in the company. His feud with Roman Reigns is the most captivating rivalry in the promotion right now, and KO has done an additionally excellent job of leveraging Talking Smack to generate interest in his character and match.
KO has been an elite singles competitor in the company, but imagine him elevating the tag team division. Aside from his tag team with Sami Zayn, which resulted in a match at WrestleMania 34 against Shane McMahon and a returning Daniel Bryan, we saw a tease of a tag team between Owens and Bryan a few weeks ago.
The Prizefighter himself has had eyes on a proper tag team run, too. TalkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy tweeted that Kevin Owens pitched forming a tag team with AJ Styles, Apollo Crews, and Mustafa Ali in the past.
Styles and Owens would quite the power duo, and their formation as a tag team would have been interesting, especially depending on the timing. It was their rivalry for the United States Championship that eventually led to the long-running, WrestleMania-worthy feud between KO and Shane.
Apollo and KO would have been an even more exciting tag team, given that Crews’ profile would have been raised by working with Owens. We have seen Crews shine this year as a US Champion in his own right, though his post-draft move to SmackDown has not been fruitful as of yet.
Finally, Ali and Owens would have been the best of the bunch, in my opinion. Ali is currently in a faction called RETRIBUTION, and without getting into the whole mess of that, it is safe to say that Ali is world championship material. And if he is world championship material, then surely he and Owens would have been tag team champions and a brilliant tag team on the mic and in the ring. Ali and Owens are two bad-ass babyfaces and among the best talkers in WWE.
Maybe we’ll get to see KO teamed up with one of these three guys in the future. Crews and Owens are on the same brand right now, so if Bryans and Owens doesn’t work out, then maybe a partnership between two former US Champions could be in the cards.
