Drew McIntyre (c) vs. AJ Styles [WWE Championship: TLC]
Result: Drew McIntyre
Grade: 3.5/5.0 Stars (B-)
In the beginning stages of the match, most of the focus was on the tease of Omos potentially interfering in this match. AJ Styles locked in the Calf Crusher on Drew McIntyre through one of the ladders and took control with multiple chair shots to the spine of McIntyre. He then locked in the Calf Crusher on McIntyre through the steel chair. McIntyre’s calf was a major worked injury in this bout. He continued to sell the knee while attempting to get back some babyface offense.
The pace of this match was very slow. Styles attempted to deliver a 450 Splash to McIntyre through a table outside the ring, but McIntyre finally counters by sending a chair into Styles’ face. However, McIntyre’s offense was neutralized once Styles sidestepped McIntyre onto a slanted ladder. McIntyre eventually gained back control by delivering a Belly to Belly Suplex to Styles onto that ladder. Styles regained momentum with a Phenomenal Forearm.
Styles climbed the Ladder to grab the WWE Championship. McIntyre stopped Styles and tossed him into a table outside the ring. McIntyre climbed the ladder to grab the championship, but The Miz ran in to deliver a Powerbomb to McIntyre into the table and cashed in the MITB contract. It is now a triple threat WWE Championship match, but Omos stopped The Miz from grabbing the championship, grabbed him, and tossed him into a table outside the ring.
John Morrison slammed Omos on his back with a steel chair but the chair broke. John Morrison ran to the backstage area as Omos chased after him. McIntyre, Styles, and The Miz climbed the ladder together. McIntyre tips over the Ladder, taking out both Styles and The Miz. Styles went flying outside the ring. McIntyre delivered a Claymore to The Miz inside the ring and climbs the ladder to retrieve the WWE Championship. Decent TLC match.
