Women’s WWE MITB 2021 Briefcase Winner: Candice LeRae
I have gone back-and-forth on this one so many times, because there are a lot of equally great options. Billie Kay would be my personal pick if I were playing favorites. I’m such a huge fan of her character work and truly believe she can be a star.
However, I also realize that Kay may not be ready to be world champion in 2021 and that WWE may want to go with someone who is more proven in terms of putting on great world title matches. And if that’s the case, I honestly can’t think of many wrestlers better than Candice LeRae.
It’s pretty shocking that LeRae hasn’t won a world title in NXT yet, though she’s put on a catalogue of great matches already. Her current heel work is good, and her babyface work was top-notch prior to that. And prior to even joining NXT, she was a ground-breaking wrestler in intergender matches and one of the best on the independent scene without a doubt.
LeRae has all the tools to be a great world champion in WWE. She’s one of those wrestlers who could make a career out of staying in NXT, but I’d love to see her branch out and become a staple on the main roster. It’s hard to break through in that top tier of wrestlers on the main roster, but LeRae is one of the wrestlers who could conceivably do that due to her experience and versatility in the ring.
It would be an awesome story to see LeRae finally win a world title in WWE by cashing in the briefcase. She could do this as a face or a heel, since Bayley showed how awesome feel-good cash-ins are. Plus, her highest upside on the main roster would be as a face. But this year, she’s shown she can do whatever WWE ask of her.
I know it’s kind of an “out there” pick, but WWE needs to shake things up in 2021. An out-of-nowhere rise from LeRae on the main roster would count as a positive shock to the system and something new for the fans to get invested in.
