With the Royal Rumble pay-per-view less than a month away, here are several gentlemen who could use a big win in the eponymous match.

Before we begin, let’s get this out of the way: no one actually NEEDS to win the Royal Rumble match, especially since the second brand split went into effect in 2016.

Over the years, WWE has shown us the levels of creativity they will either rise or sink to as a means of getting their chosen superstar slotted into whatever title match Vince McMahon and his overworked, underappreciated band of writers deem them fit for.

Fans have seen wrestlers who fall short of winning the Rumble — or winners who lose the corresponding championship match they receive for outlasting the 29 other competitors in the bout — get second chances inside of the Elimination Chamber and win, beat whoever won the Rumble in a singles match or even get the title shot anyway thanks to the kindness of an authority figure. This, of course, sucks, as providing other avenues to receive a title shot at WrestleMania only cheapens the significance of a Rumble win.

That, however, doesn’t mean the Rumble can’t still instantly elevate the right wrestler. Given that the list of Rumble winners is a who’s who of wrestling royalty, having your name mentioned among that exclusive class remains a tremendous launching point to superstardom. And in 2021, these are the three guys who could use that boost the most.
