Cardi B at WWE Wrestlemania: Where Does The Rapper Fit In?

Cardi B was recently mentioned on WWE Raw’s Legends Night, with the “WAP” rapper teasing a WrestleMania appearance, but where would the rapper fit in?

So you might have looked at the headline and wondered how on Earth Cardi B and WrestleMania fit into the same sentence. Well, Cardi set herself on a Twitter spree last Monday during the RAW Legends Night show on Jan. 4, embroiling herself into a war of words with WWE superstar Lacey Evans.

Cardi was namedropped with Ariana Grande and Kylie Jenner by Hall of Famer Torrie Wilson during a segment with then-24/7 Champion Angel Garza. Garza pursued the idea of Cardi B being at Raw, only to find himself opposite The Boogeyman.

But in mentioning the “Bodak Yellow” rapper, WWE managed to stir up a social media whirlwind, as everyone began to tag Cardi almost right after her name left Wilson’s mouth. Cardi herself started to reply to the mentions and while at first inquisitive to see what the relevance was, eventually started to engage wrestlers directly.

Although the tweets were mostly positive and in admiration for stars like Sasha Banks, Trish Stratus, and Melina, we did also saw an interaction with Lacey Evans, where Cardi B got herself worked into a shoot, without meaning to.

Evans chimed in on the Twitter feed with the following in-character tweet, before Cardi clapped back in a now-deleted tweet:

Evans would go on to reply to Cardi, offering to throw down with the rapper, and Cardi throughout the night would allude to the idea of making a WrestleMania appearance in the following tweets:

It wouldn’t be the first time we have seen a rapper get involved with WWE. Snoop Dogg himself, for example, is a WWE Hall of Famer and Eminem rival MGK has taken a powerbomb bump from Kevin Owens. The lead-up to WrestleMania is the busiest time for WWE viewership as more eyes from outside the wrestling fandom look over to the product. Much like the Super Bowl or the FIFA World Cup, WrestleMania is a mainstream sporting event. Consequently, it makes sense for WWE to amp up the views by involving a true music superstar with such a large following with their flagship event.

Where she fits in is the tough part. It’s reasonable to expect WWE isn’t going to sanction a match between her and Evans but we could see a superstar representing Cardi in a bout while the rapper stands at ringside. Maybe Charlotte Flair could represent Cardi, keeping Flair away from the main event scene and coming full circle with Cardi’s husband Offset’s song “Ric Flair Drip”, which features “The Nature Boy” himself in the music video.

The best avenue WWE could take to have Cardi involved is for her to be ringside for a match between her chosen favourite against Evans, and through the rapper’s interference, say, a slap across the face, we see the chosen favourite win. And maybe have Cardi perform a song prior to walking said wrestler to the ring.

This approach would generate the eyes on the product that WWE will want whilst also allowing for some insane trash talk promos from Cardi in the lead up to Mania. More importantly, this approach means you are not demeaning a WWE superstar’s in-ring work and credibility for the sake of Cardi going over.
