Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Goldberg for the WWE Championship

First, my best wishes to Drew McIntyre. I hope he gets well soon. To everyone reading this, please take COVID-19 seriously and continue to physically distance, practice proper hand-washing, and mask up.

It seems like WWE will go ahead with Drew McIntyre vs. Goldberg at WWE Royal Rumble 2021, based on the promos we saw from both wrestlers on this week’s episode of Raw. Hopefully, McIntyre is healthy and cleared by then.

Goldberg is quite the surprise opponent for McIntyre; it seemed like WWE was actually positioning Goldberg as Roman Reigns’ opponent this WrestleMania season after being unable to put that Universal Title match together last year.

I actually think Goldberg vs. McIntyre is a better matchup than Goldberg vs. Reigns, only because it serves as a test for McIntyre. Can McIntyre do what so many others could not and actually have a compelling feud with one of the most overrated and least charismatic legends in WWE?

Goldberg’s promos are nonsensical world salads that only a man who literally bashes his head on walls could utter. McIntyre has his work cut out for him. In the ring, Goldberg is just as bad, since he is a health hazard and can really only wrestle one type of finisher-spamming match for five minutes. He specializes in “car wreck” matches, whereas McIntyre is a wrestler who excels when he’s wrestling athletic opponents or putting on 20-minute, slow-building epics that are built around one big nearfall. You know, not five nearfalls that are purely done for shock value.

McIntyre retains. Only because I do not even want to comprehend another infuriating Goldberg world title run during WrestleMania season.

Prediction: Drew McIntyre
