WWE: Edge to return in the 2021 Royal Rumble
Edge appeared on Monday Night Raw to announce that he is returning to action to compete in the 2021 Royal Rumble. He has been out of action since Backlash where he and Randy Orton battled for nearly 45 minutes in what was dubbed the “Greatest Match of All Time.”
Edge continues his return story that started in January of 2020 when he was a surprise entrant into the Royal Rumble. It was his first appearance in nine years and one that sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe in attendance and watching around the world. Even though he was eventually eliminated by Roman Reigns, Edge’s return was perhaps the most talked about moment of 2020.
“I am entering the Royal Rumble,” Edge said. “I know it won’t be like last year. The stakes are higher. I know that the window closes for me more and more every day. I need to main event WrestleMania and take back what I never lost, what is mine.”
Edge cut a promo during the third hour of Monday Night Raw, talking about his career and calling back to words from his mother that are encouraging him to give it another go. In that match against Orton in June he suffered a torn biceps which forced him out of action. He competed in one other match in 2020, defeating Orton during a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36.
“If you have a dream, at some point you have to fight to make that dream a reality. At the Royal Rumble I am going to fight with every fiber of my being, every breath in my body to make this far-fetched dream come true.”
The 2021 Royal Rumble is scheduled for Sunday, January 31 and will take place at Tropicana Field, in the ThunderDome with a special musical performance by the award-winning Bad Bunny.
