AEW Dynamite Predictions for January 27th, 2021
Coming off a rather lackluster show last week, AEW Dynamite looks to bounce back this week with a show that includes interesting matchups as well as some of the promotions biggest stars talking about upcoming matches.
Sting and Darby Allin will appear to talk about their upcoming (and surely cinematic) streetfight versus Ricky Starks and Brian Cage of Team Taz. Cody Rhodes will respond to the comments Shaquille O’Neal made to Brandi Rhodes a few weeks back, and Jon Moxley will make his presence known, as he discusses his upcoming six-man tag team match at Beach Break, as he joins forces with Pac and Rey Fenix to take on Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers.
In addition to those scheduled segments, there are also six announced matches for the upcoming show. Here is the match card and what to expect:
Britt Baker vs Shanna
AEW has announced that they will hold a tournament to determine who the number one contender for Hikaru Shida’s AEW Women’s World Championship will be. There is only one clear and obvious choice as to who that winner should be, and that is Dr. Britt Baker.
Baker’s evolution as a character has been so much fun to watch. She comes off as a natural heel and pairing her with someone like Rebel (aka “Reba”), whose sole purpose is to stroke Baker’s ego, is the perfect complement to keep Baker from ever having even a shred of self-doubt.
But truth be told, it has been a long time since we have seen Baker wrestle a high profile match. Next week, at Beach Break, she will have to do just that when she takes on Thunder Rosa. Being a champion takes more than just being able to go on the mic; you have to be able to go in the ring also.
If Baker can look impressive in a competitive “warm-up” match against Shanna and then do her part to steal the show next week in a highly anticipated scrap with Rosa, she may just win the upcoming tournament and be on her way to becoming the next AEW Women’s World Champion. Winner: Britt Baker
Adam Page vs Ryan Nemeth
The saga of Hangman Page and the Dark Order will most definitely continue this week, as the group continues to look to fill the void left by the tragic passing of Brodie Lee. It feels like a matter of time before Page gives in and joins the stable. It makes all the sense in the world from a storyline perspective, as it will give Page something to do until he circles back around to Kenny Omega.
This week, Ryan Nemeth, younger brother of WWE’s Dolph Ziggler, will try to make a name for himself in AEW by pulling off an upset over Page. This match will not do much more than showcase Page’s skills in the ring as he beats down the AEW newcomer. Winner: Adam Page
Young Bucks & The Good Brothers vs The Dark Order
The Dark Order has been on quite a run lately, racking up victories at every turn. They will face their toughest test to date when they go up against the reigning tag team champions from both Impact and AEW in The Good Brothers and The Young Bucks in an eight-man tag team match.
The biggest question here is whether or not The Good Brothers and The Young Bucks can co-exist. After last week’s apparent beatdown of Don Callis, it seems like the Bucks are staying away from a heel turn and that may cause some friction with The Good Brothers.
That said, The Young Bucks showed heel-like traits not that long ago when they went on their superkick rampage a while back. I think ultimately, they will complete that heel turn at some point between now and the Revolution pay-per-view. This match with The Dark Order seems like a great place to push across the advancement of these many storyline threads.
Having the Bucks turn full heel here can lead to a post-match beatdown of Dark Order by reunited Bullet Club before Adam Page makes the save for the team. From there, Page can officially join up with the Dark Order or he can continue to drag it out for a few more weeks. Dark Order will drop this match to The Good Brothers and The Young Bucks but they may pick up a victory in finally getting Hangman to join their ranks. Winners: The Good Brothers & The Young Bucks
Chris Jericho & MJF vs Varsity Blondes
With the outcome of this match all but decided, this contest is really about progressing the story of the Inner Circle.
Over the last few weeks, we have seen MJF address members of Inner Circle both as a whole and individually while Chris Jericho was nowhere to be found. MJF has built up credit with Santana (consoling him over the loss of a loved one) and Jake Hager (consoling him over the loss to Wardlow) and the group as a whole (minus Sammy Guevara) by questioning Jericho’s decision to make The Inner Circle Tag Team Challenge last week.
It seems clear now that MJF has joined The Inner Circle not to destroy it from within but to oust Jericho as the leader and take over the faction himself. MJF and Jericho will win this match and MJF will find a way to plant more seeds of doubt in the group in regards to Jericho’s leadership. Winners: Jericho & MJF
Jungle Boy vs Dax Hardwood
The budding rivalry between Jurassic Express and FTR will continue this week with a singles match in which Cash Wheeler and Tully Blanchard will be handcuffed to Luchasaurus to prevent any outside interference.
This should be a fun match that will continue to propel this rivalry forward. With Wheeler, Blanchard, and Luchasaurus handcuffed together look for Marko Stunt to play a key role in the outcome of this match.
While it is vital to keep FTR strong in tag team competition, as a rematch with The Young Bucks seems all but certain, it is not so important in this singles contest. This is a perfect spot to let Jungle Boy show off the skills that have made him one of the young wrestlers that will be the future of AEW and go over on an established veteran.
Payback is a…., well you know how the saying goes. Marko Stunt will get involved here helping Jungle Boy pick up a not so clean victory over Hardwood, intensifying this rivalry moving forward. Winner: Jungle Boy
Eddie Kingston vs Lance Archer
Lance Archer and Eddie Kingston will finally lock up in a singles match that has been brewing for weeks.
Kingston has been gold since coming to AEW. His work on the microphone has been top-notch and his matches have been entertaining as well. However, he has had trouble picking up victories. Sitting with just a 6-5 record since joining AEW he has to be considered the underdog facing Lance Archer.
While it is certainly possible that Butcher and Blade interfere in this match, costing Archer the victory, that’s not the way this should go. Kingston will always remain relevant because of his ability to make a match feel important with his promo ability.
Archer has been booked strong since debuting in AEW and he should remain strong here. Since turning face in recent weeks, picking up a few high profile victories could set him up nicely for a future program with AEW Champion Kenny Omega. Archer will be able to fight off Kingston, Butcher, and Blade and pick up the victory. Winner: Lance Archer
