Women’s Royal Rumble- Royal Rumble 2019

With all the funfair and expectations fulfilled from the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018, there was a little pressure to “follow that act” in 2019. The women came through with an outstanding “bang”, and as always, it was fun to watch the female superstars of the past mingle with the present women’s division.

Still, as soon as Lana was injured and Becky Lynch walked down that aisle (and started a fight with Fit Finlay) the live fans in the Chase Field arena, plus the fans at home, went wild! It also solidified Lynch heading towards her dream (and the dream of the WWE Universe at that point) of main eventing on the Grandest Stage of Them All. The twists and turns along the Road to WrestleMania is a story all in itself; however, it would not have been made possible without Lynch’s 2019 Royal Rumble win.

The IIconics vs. The Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection vs. Beth Phoenix and Natalya vs.Tamina and Nia Jax- WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships; WrestleMania 35

Speaking of WrestleMania 35, while the WWE Women’s Tag Championships weave in and out of relevancy today, a moment in time when things seemed to be getting on track was 2019. As the WWE established strong women’s tag teams, Mania 35 offered some stellar female tag action in the form of a four-way match that showcased the talents of Sasha Banks, Bayley, Natalya, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Tamina, and Nia Jax. The WWE Universe was given a swerve via an IIconics win, and the match overall was a fantastic one.

Bayley Versus Sasha Banks- Hell in a Cell match, WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship; Hell in a Cell 2020

Friends or foes, Bayley and Sasha were two major MVPs in 2020, a year that offered so much uncertainty and challenges for not only the land of the WWE, but also people and businesses across the globe. For the first half of the year, they dominated WWE TV with their BFF storyline; for the second half, they finally gave fans what they’d been desperate for years now: a main roster rivalry between the two. Their 2020 Hell in a Cell match did not disappoint. In fact, in many ways, it made the WWE Universe wanting more from Banks and Bayley. While their feud wasn’t as long as many would have hoped for, it did offer plenty of incredible storytelling, promos, character building, and that tremendous cell match.
