The Elimination Chamber is one of the most unique and violent matches in the WWE and now it’s time to look back at its best matches.

“Two miles of chain, over 10 tons of solid steel designed to punish the human body.”

Those are the iconic words that introduced wrestling fans to the Elimination Chamber, a brutal and unforgiving structure that the six wrestlers who were scheduled to go into for the match, were actually a bit nervous about going into, with Chris Jericho going on record to state, “It’s one of those things that you can tell was made by somebody who’s not a wrestling person.”

This match was created by Triple H, who drew the structure on a napkin. Now, we can criticize WWE booking all we want, but I think it’s fair to say that when it comes to bringing innovative ideas to the table, there are few better than good ol’ VKM. I mean, some of them have failed miserably, like the infamous Hog Pen match, but most of them, like the Royal Rumble, Money in the Bank, and Hell in a Cell to name just a few, have become massive success stories.

The Elimination Chamber is no exception. It combines the best qualities of matches like the Rumble, Hell in a Cell, WarGames, Steel Cage, etc., and gives room to the performers for telling beautiful stories.

Six participants enter the match, with two of them starting and the four others locked inside pods, with a random participant entering after regular intervals of a few minutes. We get mini-matches, mini-feuds, dream face-offs, temporary alliances, the breakups of said temporary alliances, innovative stunts, Tower of Doom spots, etc. The possibilities are endless.

Over the years, we’ve seen some good and bad Elimination Chamber matches, and even though these matches are now relegated to the month of February rather than when the story calls for it, we’ve seen some great Elimination Chambers in recent years as well.

And now that we’re heading right towards Elimination Chamber 2021, I thought it’d be a good time to list 5 of the best, but first, a few honorable mentions.

The first-ever Women’s Elimination Chamber match and Alexa Bliss’s awesome promo afterward. The 2010 World Heavyweight title Chamber at the start of which Undertaker got severely burned by pyro, hats off to the Deadman for still competing. This match served its purpose in a beautiful story as HBK, due to his obsession to fight Taker, hid under the ring and in the end, handed the title to his worst enemy Chris Jericho.

And a final mention to the 2008 WWE Championship chamber match that gave us the final two war between Triple H and the Undertaker.

Now, let’s get to it. These are the 5 greatest Elimination Chamber matches in history.
