2. No Way Out 2009 (World Heavyweight Championship)

John Cena (c) vs. Edge vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho vs. Mike Knox vs. Kane for the World Heavyweight Championship

Well, the information about the match is only partially correct because Edge wasn’t supposed to be in the match. Instead, it was supposed to be Kofi Kingston, who was attacked by Edge as he was making his entrance. Then, Edge went inside and locked himself inside one of the pods. Wrestling, am I right?

This whole show served a purpose in Edge’s story, Edge’s character of the Ultimate Opportunist. You see, Edge entered the show as the WWE Champion in the other Elimination Chamber match on this night, and he was eliminated by Jeff Hardy even before any other participant could enter the match. It was an amazing moment but initially shocking to fans, as they wondered why Edge, the champion, was eliminated so early. It would pay off in a big way later.

So, in the World Heavyweight title match, Jericho and Mysterio started the match, oh, and also, good guy Rey showed concern for Kofi and tried to attack Edge.

Jericho and Mysterio, as is clear from their excellent IC title feud, have amazing chemistry in the ring. They are both at the top of their game and the match is off to a hot start. Oh, and then Mike Knox, who’s also in this match, enters the ring, destroys both guys, eats a Codebreaker, and then gets eliminated by Jericho. I’m sorry, why was he in there? But, you know what? Good for him.

Kofi was supposed to be next but, of course, his pod has a new occupant called Edge, who Mysterio doesn’t even wait for to enter the match, he dives into the pod and starts beating Edge up. Then there are great wrestlers doing great things (part 2) before John Cena enters.

John Cena, predictably, destroys everyone like the WWE’s resident Superman, what was not predictable though, was what happened after Cena’s hulk up.

Jericho hit Cena with the Codebreaker, which got transitioned into a 619 from Mysterio, which then got transitioned into a Spear from Edge, who then pinned him. WHAT!?

That’s right, Cena got kicked out minutes into his entrance. This has to go down in history as one of the most clever booking decisions WWE ever made with the Chamber, Edge’s face after the elimination would’ve been on a million memes had the match took place yesterday. Wait…..  Yes, it has.

After some time, Mysterio rolled Jericho up for another elimination, and then the final two, Edge and Rey, went to war. As far as Chamber matches go, Edge and Mysterio are golden against each other, and this showdown was no exception. In the end, Edge launched Rey into one of the pods and then hit the Spear to capture the belt.

Edge’s character arc was complete, he went in as the WWE Champion and got out as the World Heavyweight Champion, and I don’t know about you but I’d take that gorgeous “Big Gold” belt over that hideous spinner any day.

We do kind of feel bad for Kofi, don’t we? Well, never fear.
