Shinsuke Nakamura

As far as televised events go, Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura have faced one another only twice during their respective times in WWE.

The first meeting occurred at Survivor Series 2018 in a champion vs. champion match as part of that shows “Raw vs. SmackDown” theme — Rollins was the Intercontinental Champion, while Nakamura held the United States Championship — with Rollins picking up the pinfall victory.

We got a rematch between the two less than a year later as part of the FOX premiere of SmackDown, though that bout lasted less than three minutes thanks to The Fiend spooking then-top babyface Rollins (the less said about that Fiend storyline, the better).

With so few interactions between the two — even their 2018 showdown was built as a side mission in the path of Rollins’ quest for vengeance against Dean Ambrose — it makes sense for WWE to explore a potential program between the two, especially in the wake of Nakamura’s rechristening as a babyface.

If given enough time, the matches between these two would be classics; if they could put together a near-four-star effort in a match with little storyline backdrop, imagine what wrinkles they could add through the course of a full-fledged program.
